I’m listening!

Hooo LAWD! Has it been a long time since I have posted something! I promise I will be able to keep this blog a little more updated as the KiDECALS team is expanding!! I have a new Scott on the team!.  The first being my darling husband who is now “Head of Production” and the next being my awesome neighbor who is the new “Director of Fundraising and Affiliates” (so official sounding!!) We are hitting the schools and teams hard to include KiDECALS in their fundraising efforts this year.  We think our product is an awesome alternative to the products that kids usually have to sell but no one wants to use ;) I mean, how much gift wrap can you possibly have?  We are also offering awesome incentives and high returns to your organization. If you are interested please contact scottr@kidecals.com. He’s the man!

I also have a new assistant, the lovely Katie Homes. NO, not that Katie Homes! This Katie Homes! After having a heart breaking experience with my last assistant (she stole and used my credit card, I know! Can you believe it??!!), I was really unsure and scared of who to hire next.  I’m sure you other small business owners can relate.  Your employees become like family, and that kind of betrayal just throws you.  I was lucky enough to find Katie available. She is a talented artist, musician, and best of all, a dear friend who was already like family!  Our minds are synergistic and we have big design plans brewing for KiDECALS!

On that note, I wanted to introduce our latest new product.  Many of you have asked and I wanted you to know that I am listening.  You can now buy a sheet of the small dots only!  People love to use these for labeling clothing and other small items and were finding they needed more!! So here you go, a sheet of 72 small dots for $18!

Also in the works are rectangular Name, uh, I guess not Dots! Rectangular Name Labels (better name in the works too) that I should have available in the store this week.  Keep the requests coming, and we will try to keep up with as many of them as possible.

The last bit of news is that we are working on a better website to make your shopping experience *AWESOME* I won’t go into details now, but we are all really excited about it. It will make the whole KiDECALS experience so much easier and fun! We are shooting for launching at the end of September so keep checking back.  I think you all are going to love it!

All for now. Thanks for the amazing support this summer. We love all of our fans and clients and it is because of you and your referrals that we are cranking it out!  So keep checking facebook for great “gratitude deals” (hint: there is one there now, but you have to like us on facebook and search our wall!) We continue to keep everything made in the USA and as local as possible.  We strive for the best environmental practices and are constantly educating ourselves about new products and techniques that will serve you and your family better.  I only use the best for my family, I want to offer the same to you so you can feel good about your purchase!

Have a great rest of your summer (did I mention that I took my kids to a boy band last night in the 100 degree heat? What we do out of love!)

xoxo

Must Be Design Monday!

Today has been a prolific design day! I got my manly designs done…for tools and fishing gear. Photos on actual gear will follow shortly.  In the meantime, check them out…

Real New Products!

Time to tell you about my real, new designs (see my April Fools post) My first new design was made for my cousin who loves animal prints (especially zebra) She gave them to her daughter who is a hair dresser to label her tools (so her brushes and flat irons stay at her station). I can’t wait to see pictures of her stuff! Here is the fun design (other animal print designs to follow soon!)

My next new design was made for a friend’s mother who keeps misplacing her keys, cell phone, etc (I know I can relate!).  My friend thought that Name Dots would help but wanted a more grown up design; so we decided on a rose theme.  I love roses and their strong but delicate nature.  I have been so busy printing and designing Name Dots for clients that I don’t have any for myself!  Now that I have designed these, I am going to print a set up for me!  I have a new pretty pink yoga mat on which these would look great!

Tell me what you think or what designs you would like to see!  I am also working on some more “manly” designs for the gearheads in your lives!

New Product Available Today Only!

Available today only April 1, 2011

*this is a joke guys, you know we love you!

Today on the Today Show!

OK, OK…I know it has been forever since I have posted anything here.  From filling orders and keeping my facebook and twitter up to date to putting the kids to bed and keeping the house organized, my blog seems to get ignored (and, ahem, I do need time to do some very important things like watching the latest episode of Glee).  But today I have to post because today KiDECALS was on TODAY!  A segment with Kathie Lee and Hoda, my labels (and even a sample of my new canvases) made a brief but well received appearance on the show.  I wish that they had the time to show all of the cute things I made for them, like this custom Kathie Lee and Hoda label:

But I am more than happy with what they did include!  Notice how she says “and they work!” at the very end of the clip!!  So back to the grindstone, with lots of orders to fill, but I had to finally pause to post this very momentous occasion!

Today I also received a wonderful testimonial from a customer who had received Name Dots as a gift.  Here is what he had to say about them:

“I wanted to follow up to let you know my wife and I love them and so do the girls. With two small children, 4 and 6, who have a lot of the same toys and toothbrushes, it has saved us MANY disagreements over who it belongs to. We put them on their school supplies, clothing, while they put them on everything they want people to know it theirs. We have had people call to return clothing items left in the school yard. So not only do they serve an important purpose it’s also a great, fun and easy thing to do.  Thank you for making such a great product that the whole family enjoys!”

Thanks to all of you for your support making my business dreams come true!

Intense doesn’t begin to explain it….

It has been a wild week.  On labor day, the most destructive fire in Boulder’s history ripped through our wildlands destroying over 160 homes.  Local firefighters and firefighters from around the country have been working around the clock to keep us safe.  The smoke nearly drove us from our home on Tuesday as our youngest battled asthma-like symptoms.  By Wednesday, our neighborhood was under pre-evacuation orders and we had the car packed and ready to go at a moment’s notice.  It has been an intense week in Boulder, to say the least.  Friends were fleeing the fire, friends are fighting the fire, and we are all trying to lend our physical and emotional support however we can.

Every summer in July we have a big party, inviting all of our family, friends, and neighbors to our house for some live music, good food, and cold margs.  This year we had to push it back due to busy schedules and we decided September 11th would be a perfect day to have it.  My husband’s friend, George Cain, was a NYC firefighter and lost in the towers.  My father’s friend and attorney was in one of those planes and another close friend lost his uncle on the PA flight.  Having a party to remember our friends and to send loving and healing energy out into the world seemed like a good plan.  However, we didn’t realize we would be toasting to more than one firefighter.

The fire is now reported to be 75% contained.  A tremendous thank you to all the amazing men and women who put their lives on the line to protect others. To our many friends who are still fighting this fire as we speak, thank you and we continue to pray for your safety.  To our friend George and his family and to not only the thousands of families affected by the tragedy of 9/11 but also to those around the world who are affected everyday by war, fire, flood, and famine we love you.

A local artist has made this super cool poster to support the relief efforts here in town. Check it out and click on the image to take you to Camp Steve’s online store.

At the party last night we collected donated supplies we will drop off to the firefighters today.  This morning, as we cleaned up around the yard, talked about the festivities, sipped our coffees, and opened the paper we were surprised at who made an appearance yet again into our lives.  Hey George!  We think about you all the time and how you told us you were going to crash our wedding the very last time we saw you out on the slopes.  Love you buddy!

That's George's photo being held up

Thinking of the holidays….already!!??

Can you believe summer is over??!! Even though we are still enjoying warm days, thoughts of the holidays are racing through my head. My oldest asks everyday to look at Halloween costumes (he’s a planner!) Recently, I had a friend ask me to make some Halloween inspired labels for her babe born on the day. Something festive but not to scary for her little guy so I came up with Lil’ Pumpkin Name Dots.  Fun for the holiday and a cute reminder for the rest of the year!  These are also available as custom Party Dots™ and Stationary Dots™

Moving on to December, how about these labels for your gifts this year?

Also great for those homemade gifts (the best kind!) are our “From the Kitchen of…” Name Dots™

And for any time of the year, let your favorite teacher know how special they are with a customized gift…

I heart New York!

Last week I was in the big city for business.  I have family in the area and grew up visiting the city often so I feel at home there.  Changing from the laid back rhythm of Colorodo living to the frenetic NYC pace is different for sure but invigorating and inspiring all the same.  My friend was teasing me because I was constantly looking up and asking questions. But it turned out that I noticed a lot of things she never had, a cool detail on a building, a new restaurant on the corner! I reveled in walking for blocks and blocks taking in the sights, sounds, and smells. Well, maybe not all of the smells!  It’s amazing how quickly they can turn on you in NYC!  From  savory street food carts and crisp flowing fountain water to wretched trash and terrible, indistinguishable odors all in a couple of steps!

It was a busy couple of days but I was able to reconnect with a few of my peeps and get to Dylan’s Candy Bar to buy the boys goodies.  And boy did they have goodies! Three floors of candy to be exact.  Very cool. Very Fun.

Love you New York!  Can’t wait to visit again!

Gotta love this view!

New Designs!

I am going to NYC on Sunday and even though I have a TON of work to do to before then, my impending trip inspired me to create some more designs. These designs do not necessarily have ANYTHING to do with New York, but here they are nonetheless. Thinking about the big city just makes me want to create! I hope you like them and contact me if you have any designs you would like to see!  If I use your idea, I will give you 50% off your order!! :)
